On being completely disenchanted

Published on November 3, 2004

Chances are, just about every blog you read today is talking about how shocked, disappointed, disenchanted, disenfranchised, upset and confused they are. I can’t say I disagree, and I can’t really add anything to what has already been said. So instead, here’s Jaron’s blog-ready gem of an email:

Yesterday I went to the kerry rally and witnessed one of the most depressing situations ever. Thousands of people had come to Copley Square to cheer on Kerry and celebrate his possible victory.

In the end, after Bon Jovi played a few average sounding acoustic ditties, CNN came on the monitor. Bush was ahead in everything. The electoral votes were nail-biting close and things seemed to be going downhill from the start. All those red states lined up in a row like Bush had superglued them together.

Anyway, a large crowd of people all filed out as soon as CNN reported that it was too close to tell and Ohio was the only state that could really decide it. Everyone just took off.

I guess I learned something from this whole ordeal.

Don’t keep your hopes up and don’t expect democracy to always prevail.

lets hope that this country gets back on it’s feet again.

We can’t afford another four years of violence.

You’re my boy jaron.

OK, I can’t really add anything that’s already been said, but I’m going to, regardless.

I think I’m in shock. I don’t understand why or how this happened. If the Dems can’t win this year, can they ever win again? Why is Larry King talking about who the 2008 nominees will be. Who cares? Polls show that young people didn’t vote, how can that be? Four Supreme Court justices could be appointed in the next four years. Four.

For me, what’s hardest to swallow is not that Kerry lost, but we re-elected Bush. Why are we affirming everything he’s done in the last term. You’re doing great Bush, keep on going. Christ.

I can’t remember a time where I’ve felt as disappointed as I do today.
