Cross Over

I did something today that up until a year or two ago, I swore I would never do. After work this evening, I headed to the Cambridgeside Galleria, and came home with a new 15 inch Apple PowerBook.
I’ve been toying with the idea of getting an apple for awhile now, having gotten sick of fighting with my PC. The 2003 taxes have been filed, the return is on the way, so I decided that it was time. Besides, buying a new Mac has killed any hope I had for buying a car in the near future. When you look at it, really, I’m saving about 20 grand. Could I be any more fiscally responsible?
So far, I’m impressed. I’m still getting used to OS X, and have a new found respect for those people who ask me silly questions about their PC’s at work all day. Things like getting all of my folders to display as lists, connect to an encrypted wireless access point, and find a text editor. All things I’m sure are very straight forward, once I figure them out once.
Most things have worked fairly smoothly and intuitively. iTunes found my PC’s music in an instant, iChat downloaded my entire buddy list, and my shirt for work tomorrow is pressed and lightly starched.
Next items of business include getting some more ram, picking up a wireless mouse, installing office (and finding spell check), and digging up a copy of PhotoShop.
And my lord, that 15 inch widescreen is big.
