Car Envy

Published on November 6, 2003

Ned just got a saab. Jaron’s getting a neon this weekend. Bryan is getting an Accord in a couple months. I have to say, I’m a little jealous.

I certainly don’t need a car, but having one sure would be convenient. When 95% (or more) of my travel destinations are less than 400 miles from Boston, a car is the optimum mode of transport, and usually as fast, or faster than flying or training (after factoring in early arrival, security, etc…).

So what’s a boy to do? I’ve been thinking about buying a car since at least the beginning of the summer, and still, I think it’s a good idea. I’ve slept on the idea for at least four or five months, and I still want. I’ve waivered between the Mini Cooper S, VW Passat, Saab 9-3, and even Nissan X-Terra. All of them have plusses and minuses, and I’m still not sure which one I want, but I still would like something.

Lease or buy? New or used? Who knows… the plan is to try and stall myself until next year, hopefully until after the winter, and then pick myself up something snazzy. I just hope I can make it!
